Hawthorn Wildcrafted Berries

Hawthorn Wildcrafted Berries – About Hawthorn Plus: Hawthorn speaks to the human heart, sharing a botanical family with the most famous heart herb of all, the Rose. The Rosaceae family also includes apples, almonds, raspberries and plums. These foods deeply support the cardiovascular system. As an herb, hawthorn is food-like in nature and rich in flavonoids, not unlike blueberries. And can be included daily for someone seeking long-term or short-term cardiovascular support. Hawthorn supports healthy heart muscle function, general circulation and cognitive function.

This powerful blend of leaf, flower and berry is prepared fresh from biodynamically tended trees that give courage to stand tall and live with a warm, steady and open heart. Hawthorn Plus helps to comfort us when we feel vulnerable, tender-hearted or heavy with grief. Hawthorn’s energy encourages us to care for ourselves, our relationships with others and the larger landscape of life. Helps to calm and soothe the emotional heart, reduce grief and irritation, and ease us into deeper rest and restoration as needed.

Garden Notes: This special blend of hawthorn flowers, leaves and berries is hand-picked on our farm. Having the three plant parts concentrated together, while fresh, makes this extract particularly effective and potent. A large hawthorn hedge with long-lived trees surrounds the sanctuary garden on our biodynamic farm. In June, we hand-harvest the white flowers, loved by honey bees, and immediately tincture them in organic alcohol. In October, we use long pruning poles to collect baskets full of red hawthorn berries, which are immediately tinctured in organic alcohol.

Foraging Rose Hips & Wild Rose: Identification, Harvesting, & Uses

Please select “OK” to continue to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians website, or close this box to return to . In recent years I have become more and more interested in identifying native plants and foraging. In the last year I have also fallen in love with wildlife art. In case you’re not familiar, wildcrafting is collecting plants or herbs from the wild and using them for food and/or medicinal purposes. While there are many online resources and books that can teach you about this, in my opinion it is wise to learn from a knowledgeable instructor who can help you safely identify native plants in your area – especially if you plan to consume them!

This is Suzanne Jordan, founder and owner of Cedar Mountain Herb School in Mount Vernon. She is such a knowledgeable instructor you can have fun learning from! Suzanne has over 25 years’ experience as a herbalist and instructor. She is a member of the American Herbalists Guild, the American Herb Association, and a practical supervisor and assistant professor at Bastyr University. If it’s any indication, this is the third class I’ve taken from Suzanne (if you’re curious, go back and check out my posts on the Dandelion Intensive and Discovery Park Medicinal Plant Walk). The 2 hour drive from my house is well worth it!

Today’s class was about hawthorn. This beautiful plant is a member of the rose family (as is the apple!). In fact, in the fall the berries actually look like little apples – check it out:

In the spring, the plant is loaded with lovely flowers. Here’s a photo of one I took this spring at Discovery Park in Seattle:

Hawthorn Berry Tincture

I think it would make a lovely landscape plant! And in fact, many people use hawthorn for just that. But this beautiful plant is also full of medicine.

Hawthorn, it turns out, is especially good for heart health. As someone who has struggled with heart problems off and on
